here is a message from Helena May, our Cultural Revitalization Lead for VYPER.
“Over the last year or so, I’ve been learning my language Ucwalmícwts, also known as”Líĺwat language.” I’ve got a hang of a lot of the basics now, and I’m starting to pass some on to my students at my day job! Today during my weekly drumming with three classes, I taught my first language lesson. The kids are so intrigued by the language and are absolutely in love with the songs. My heart soars, I am so full of joy and pride. To be finally learning more about my heritage, my culture, AND to be able to share and teach what I know is a dream come true. I feel so blessed. Shoutout to First Voices!”
